Orford Cottages

Brimming with historical interest, breathtaking natural beauty and utterly delicious things, Orford is a village never forgotten by all that visit it.  A cottage holiday here will leave you with memories to treasure.

Just 11 miles from the town of Woodbridge, Orford was chosen by Henry II in 1165 as the site to build a new castle and it was completed in 1173.  What is left today is one of England’s most ‘complete and unusual’ keeps.  Owned by English Heritage, visitors can explore this remarkable structure from basement to the upper halls via its maze of passages.

From Orford Quay, you can take a boat trip across to Orford Ness, a shingle spit nature reserve (in fact, the longest shingle spit in Europe) and place of important and intriguing military history. Owned by National Trust, you can follow the self-guided walking trails to discover the secrets of this eerily beautiful landscape.

If you are a ‘foodie’ then you’ll be in heaven whilst on holiday in Orford.  You won’t fail to resist the delights that await at Pump Street Bakery from handmade breads and pastries (we LOVE the Portuguese tarts), a fabulous breakfast menu, delicious coffee - they even make their own chocolate!  Then, their Pinneys of Orford, shop and restaurant. Specialist suppliers of seafood and smoked fish, Pinneys have been growing oysters and nearby Butley Creek since the 1950s.  There’s several pubs and eateries to choose from in Orford, but for a real treat during your stay, why not book a table at the AA Rosette awarded Crown and Castle.
