Queenie's Cottage is one of two traditional timber-framed Suffolk cottages that have been lovingly restored by the owner. The cottage has been renovated to retain and enhance the rustic charm of the building and furnished with both antique and modern pieces to give the cottage a charming yet utterly comfortable feel.
Queenie's Cottage is one of the oldest dwellings in Metfield, dating back to the 15th century with 16th-century additions. It has a plethora of beams and original floors and a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burner.
The location offers a wonderful setting in the Suffolk Coutryside, yet is only a 30 minute drive to Southwold and the Suffolk Coast via the market town of Halesworth, whilst the castle towns of Bungay, Eye and Framlingham are all within easy reach.
The charm of the cottage is reflected in the great care and attention given to the design of the cottage which has the benefit of both a kitchen/dining room and a separate sitting room with a cosy wood burning stove. Upstairs you will find a double bedroom with an en-suite shower room and up a further flight of stairs a further twin bedroom.
Meadowsweet Cottage is next door and is also available to rent - the cottages can be rented individually or together if you have a larger group.
Please Note: The owners consider this property is unsuitable for the elderly/infirm and children under 8 because of the water feature in the garden and the steep stairs.
Entrance From the back garden
Kitchen and Dining room, an unusual double height room with internal mullion window looking down from above. The room has a bright and airy feel and overlooks the back garden.
It is fitted with a range of units including a dishwasher, washing machine, induction hob and electric oven, microwave oven. Dualit toaster and coffee machine. A large larder cupboard provides plenty of storage space and the dining table seats 4 people.
Downstairs wet room with walk in zinc-panelled shower, WC and wash basin.
Sitting room, a spacious room with comfortable 3 seater and 2 seater sofas, original features include a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burner and built in corner cupboard. There is a TV and wifi.
Internal lobby with spiral stairs leading to first-floor landing
Bedroom 1 Dual aspect master bedroom with king size bed, built in cupboard and original wide oak floorboards. Ensuite shower room, wc, wash basin and heated towel rail.
Spiral stairs to the second floor lead to:
Bedroom 2, Twin beds, with views over open countryside. Please note there is a very low beam across this room and care must be taken.
A south facing, partly walled garden with water features and modern landscaping inspired by the irrigation canals of Southern France and garden designer James Basson. There is an attractive glass covered dining terrace that leads off from the kitchen. Additional seating is provided under a shaded green roof structure at the rear of the garden. This is a newly planted garden but already provides a tranquil space to thoroughly relax in.
The water canals make this garden unsuitable for young children.
Off road parking for two cars at the front of the cottages.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
The property has WiFi
Two well behaved dogs re welcome at both Queenie's and Meadowsweet Cottages and the owner is happy to provide a crate for a dog should guests wish to go out for short periods without their pet. Pets are not allowed upstairs or on the furniture in the cottage but if your pet is likely to jump on to the furniture, please provide a throw to protect the upholstery and to keep the furniture in a clean condition for the next guests, who may not have pets.
Christmas and New Year 2018- we have had such an amazing stay here! We have had lovely trips to Covehith, Southwold and nearby towns. Amazing meals cooked in this wonderful kitchen- and a New Year that we will cherish for years to come. We hope to return!
