A charming holiday cottage in the very heart of the Suffolk countryside. A fusion of period features and contemporary living, close to the coast.
Marlborough House Forge has been completely renovated by the owners to provide a luxurious couples bolt-hole just a short drive from the bustling market towns of Framlingham and Woodbridge and the picturesque Suffolk coastline. As the name suggests, the cottage was formerly the village forge and many of its original features have been incorporated into the design including the original bellows. The ground floor accommodation offers everything you could wish for in your self catering holiday home with cosy and stylish interiors. From the private parking area, a path through the enclosed garden leads to the front door. Step inside and the interiors are bright and welcoming with an open plan living area complete with pretty window seat, well equipped kitchen and beautiful master bedroom and contemporary shower room. The property overlooks fields, a beautiful spot whatever the season - with misty horizons in the winter, rotating summer crops and the most amazing sunrises and sunsets.
Framlingham is a fascinating market town with an impressive 12th-century curtain-walled castle, which still dominates the town. Be sure to stop off for lunch or dinner, there are some excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants in the town. Alternatively, head to Southwold for a day on the beach, stroll along the prom and enjoy some of the best fish and chips!
Pubs in Earl Soham, Framlingham 4 miles, Woodbridge 10 miles, Aldeburgh 9 miles, Orford 12 miles, Southwold 18 miles.

Lovely little cottage. very peaceful and quiet. Great place to relax.
Difficult to find words to express our joy at finding this absolute gem of a cottage. Beautifully and tastefully furnished and equipped and set in a lovely area – we have fallen in love with The Forge cottage. Hopefully, we can renew our experience before too long. Thank you, Cathy and Peter, for the goodies and those lovely scones. Dawn & Derek, Bedfordshire.
A beautiful cottage – couldn’t fault it ! Very comfortable bed, warm and cosy, good shower – just lovely. Thank you for goodies on arrival – a very welcoming touch. Thank you. Tina & Terry, West Sussex
What a find Marlborough House Forge is ! Beautifully decorated, well equipped, scrupulously clean and lovely relaxing atmosphere. Like everyone else, we really appreciated the welcome goodies and Cathy and Peter are wonderful hosts – so helpful and friendly – and we can certainly recommend their produce. This is our first visit to this part of Suffolk and it has been a revelation. Lovely forest walks at Dunwich and from Snape Maltings to Aldeburgh were particular highlights. There is a great deli just off the square in Framlingham and they will make up hampers. Will certainly be back to this 5 Star venue. Thank you, Cathy and Peter. Gill & Lin, Essex.
Lovely cottage, really enjoyed our stay at the Forge. Visited lots of lovely places and had lots of lovely walks with the dog. Most cafes and pubs are dog-friendly. Had a nice meal at The Crown in Fram and the Red Lion in Woodbridge, both of which are dog-friendly. 10/10 for the comfy bed !! Perfect getaway. Thank you. Kim & Simon, Hertfordshire.
This is our third stay at The Forge which speaks for itself really! Cathy and Peter have made a lovely holiday home with everything you could want. Great views, warm and comfy and good dog walks. We love Suffolk so much we are moving here!! PS. Cathy's homemade scones are a real treat. Mark & Suzanne
We loved our stay here. The house is beautiful and well equipped with everything we needed and more. The views are fab; we enjoyed breakfast outside. Plenty of lovely local walks. We'd recommend walking to Dennington and going to the cafe 'Neathouse' (following footpaths there took us about 1hr to 1.5 hrs). Brilliant friendly hosts. Thank you! We'll be booking again soon x
We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in this lovely cottage. It is so comfortable and has everything in it you need and is furnished to a very high standard. Cathy and Peter have been great hosts, so friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea and eggs were really appreciated. We enjoyed visits to Framlingham, Norwich, Southwold. Afternoon tea at The Randolph Hotel in Reydon near Southwold was a highlight of our stay. Highly recommended. This is a great place to stay - we couldn't have asked for anything better.
Lovely place to stay and great base for visiting other areas. Great local dog walks for Sid and impressed that most pubs and cafes are dog friendly. Cracking breakfast at The Common Room in Framlingham although not dog friendly. The White Horse at Badingham had excellent food and dog friendly. Aldeburgh is a lovely place to visit with lots of cafes and coffee shops, a great promenade for walking along the top of the beach. The welcome tray and milk and eggs was much appreciated. Framlingham Castle is dog friendly and outer grounds are free to walk. Thank you for a lovely stay.
This has been our first holiday with our 7 week old son and it has been a wonderful place to stay. The cottage has been perfect for our requirements, warm, cosy, comfortable and well presented. We loved the local area despite the heavy rain on some of the days. Thank you to our hosts.
We have enjoyed a lovely week here in this comfortable cottage. Thank you for the welcome tray and delicious scones. We went to Framlingham Castle, Sutton Hoo, Orford Castly, Southwold, and had very tasty fish and chips in Aldeburgh. Also went to the Food and Drink Festival at Snape Maltings. We had lunch at the Dennington Queen on our 55th wedding anniversary and the food and staff were excellent. Also very dog friendly. Sadly the week is over. Thank you.
Lovely property, location and hosts. Excellent choice of cottages, easy booking and everything as described when we arrived.
We have enjoyed our first visit to Suffolk. The area is lovely and we would return here. The Forge provides great accommodation, everything you could need is at hand. Great sunrises.
This was the best cottage we have ever stayed in, from the warm welcome from the owner with homemade scones and jam. To the beautiful views and dog walks. Excellent!!!
Stylish decor and furnishings, well appointed kitchen and amazing rain shower! Outside seating area a real bonus. Peaceful location, with visits to Framlingham Castle, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Woodbridge, Southwold and Snape Maltings. Thank you for a relaxing week.
A wonderful stay in the Forge, renovated beautifully. Sad to be leaving, wishing we were staying longer. Interesting to look at the before and after photos. We have enjoyed Framlingham, morning walks with the dog. We also enjoyed G&T's on the patio in the sunshine. Loved it, we will be back! Thank you.
Suffolk is blessed with such wonderful flora and fauna and this cottage makes a perfect base for a Suffolk Safari! From the cottage we saw bats, hares, muntjac deer, foxes and rabbits and also a stoat! Across at Dunwich there are birds aplenty. We also visited some wonderful churches & churchyards at Saxtead, Framlingham, Eye, Debenham and Dennington.
The cottage is lovely and the welcome afternoon tea much appreciated. We've visited lots of lovely places - Framlingham, Lavenham, Melford Hall, Dunwich, Walberswick, Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Woodbridge and Sutton Hoo. Lots of lovely walks in the beautiful countryside. We've had a lovely week, thank you.
Beautiful cottage, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Gorgeous countryside and wonderful places to visit. Thank you for a lovely stay,
Absolutely loved The Forge. So clean and well equipped. Wonderful welcome tray. We bought Pete's lovely meats. Both Cathy & Pete were very welcoming. Wonderful location in the Suffolk countryside. Having lived in North Suffolk for 40 years, we never realised how beautiful it is here - we will be back next March and are pleased to have found such a lovely place to stay on our visits back to the UK. Would thoroughly recommend.
Simply the best! We have just spent a relaxing week in the beautiful Suffolk countryside staying in the fabulous Forge. Previous holidaymakers have spoken of all the things to do & places to see but we wanted to speak of Marlborough House Forge. Having spent many holidays in National Trust Cottages we didn't really know what to expect but let us tell you it is up there with the very best of them. It is furnished to a very high standard indeed and it is obvious that Cathy & Pete have put a lot of thought into every aspect of the cottage. The decor is very smart with original bellows used as a standout feature, with all fittings & fixtures chosen to be in keeping with the Forges history. The bedroom is light and airy with a comfy bed with the shower room to die for. The owners have thought of everything even to a welcoming tray with home made cakes and flowers when we arrived. So a big thank you to Cathy & Peter for everything. We hope to return.
We've had a lovely week exploring this area, and the Forge has been such a comfortable, warm, welcoming home from home for us. Everything here that we needed for our stay. We had a great day at Lavenham and then on to Melbury Hall - well worth the trip. We loved Snape Maltings too and had an enjoyable walk after shopping there. Beautiful property in a quiet location, very well equipped and very comfortable indeed. Provided a great base for exploring the area. Thank you Cathy & Pete for your kind hospitality and for creating such a beautiful holiday home. We hope to return one day.
A real home from home. We relaxed the first minute we arrived to our lovely afternoon tea - thank you! Very relaxing home from home. Perfect location for walking, we've clocked up 50 miles this week. There are some excellent recommendations in the guest book. Thanks so much, will definitely recommend and wish you both well in the future. Best wishes.
We've just spent a lovely week at the Forge which has been renovated to a high standard. We loved the original features of wooden beams and bellows. As people have said before, the bed is comfy and the large shower is very good. We mostly had good weather so were able to enjoy sitting out on the raised patio. The kitchen is nicely done with everything needed for cooking meals. We had days out to Southwold, Framlingham and Debenham, and there are dog friendly places to eat and lots of dog walks. For a great dog walk closer to the cottage, turn left out of the Forge and head straight along then turn left at the bend. Here, you can let your dog of the lead. We also tried some of Pete's smoked streaky bacon which was delicious and bought yummy sausages from the butcher in Framlingham. All in all a great week and we would recommend.
Cosy cottage in great location with easy access to beautiful Suffolk locations. Shame the weather couldn't have been better - but thats Britain for you!
The Forge was a perfect retreat for us. A great renovation, character with a contemporary twist. We were lucky with the weather so enjoyed the garden and strolling in the lanes. Comfy bed and brilliant shower, everything we needed and so cosy. Appreciated the welcoming afternoon tea - thank you. Enjoyed coastal places such as Covehithe, Dunwich, Southwold, Walberswick, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness and Orford. Framlingham was handy. A favourite little gem just 10 mins down the road was Debeham, enjoying coffee and cake at the cafe.
This was an excellent property. The quality of fittings, cleanliness, and facilities were outstanding. We were left a nice welcome pack and couldn’t do enough to help make our stay enjoyable. Ideal for our dog as the garden was completely enclosed. Lots of nice things to do nearby as well. We’d love to return.
Lovely cottage and hosts. Very enjoyable week in Suffolk.
Thank you for the welcoming tray and rock scones and jam - much appreciated. Lovely cottage, very peaceful getaway from the real world - just what we needed. On the trail of "The Detectorists" and found some beautiful countryside and some lovely towns. Especially recommend Hadleigh and Aldham St Mary round tower church. Framlingham too is beautiful. Lovely cosy cottage despite being modern (not usually our taste). Nice not having much light pollution. Lovely week!
Very good quality property, with excellent fittings. The decor makes it feel warm & homely. We felt very comfortable here, and really appreciated the warm welcome & food stuffs. Its a lovely area, and the coastal towns of Southwold, Aldeburgh and Dunwich were great. Nice short walk around the Mere nature reserve ion Framlingham. Thank you very much!
The three of us had a very cosy & comfortable stay. Perfect for a small family and superb location for all the best bits of Suffolk. Days spent in Aldeburgh, Walberswick, Southwold and Framlingham. Waking up with a view over the fields was bliss. We will be back!
A big thank you to Cathy & Peter. We've had a lovely relaxing break in a cosy hideaway. Our favourite places of the week were Aldeburgh and Framlingham, both had dog friendly pubs. Will certainly recommend.
We've had a great week here in this lovely cottage. Delightful owners. his has to be one of the mst homely cottages we have stayed in. Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Southwold are lovely places to visit, and are very dog friendly, with nice pubs and good food. We are sad to be going home, but we will be back and recommend.
Such a lovely cottage and warm welcome. Just what we needed - relaxing, comfortable and beautiful location. We watched the hares in the morning from the bedroom window. Enjoyed local walk to Framlingham and trips to the Maltings. But lots more still to visit! We would certainly come to Marlborough House Forge again. Thank you.
We have had a wonderful week here. Fabulous cottage and great hosts - we don't really want to go home! Walberswick, Snape Maltings, Framlingham, Aldeburgh & Southwold are all beautiful to visit but Orford was my favourite place and we enjoyed a great river trip. Thank you for such a great place to stay. You've done an amazing job especially keeping the beams and bellows.
Our thanks to Peter & Cathy for providing an excellent venue for our New Year break - nothing is too much trouble for them and we particularly appreciated the facility for charging our electric car. Peters smoked bacon is the best we've tasted in some time.
Lovely place, lovely hosts, lovely stay! Recommend Peter's lovely smoked produce - its a must. Had great Ale in Aldeburgh and the Dennington Queen. Many thanks to Peter & Cathy
We had a great time in the beautiful property. Everything is provided for a marvellous stay. We wish we could have been here longer. We enjoyed Woodbridge, Framlingham, its Castle, Aldeburgh and the walk to Thorpeness.
