Wickhambrook is a small village ideally located between the popular town of Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk’s smallest official town, Clare, in the west of the county. The village has a thriving community with a popular village pub, general store and post office. There is rolling countryside surrounding the village and a many foot paths just waiting to be explored. Not far away is Bury St Edmunds, the old capital of England and today it remains a busy and beautiful market town with plenty to see and do. Experience and enjoy the wealth of arts, heritage, and food on offer. If you love exploring local shops and restaurants then you’ll find a huge range of niche boutiques, cafes, and award-winning eateries within the town as well as national and international brands at the shopping centre The `Arc'. Wickhambrook is also ideally located for easy access to Newmarket and the famous Racecourse, historic Lavenham and Long Melford, or even Cambridge.
When we saw The Old School House on the website we instantly knew we wanted to take our short break there, we could tell from the photo's that it would suit our needs perfectly and we weren't disappointed at all. The house, the setting and the total peace and quiet was all we could ask for. We fully intend to go back. Bury St Edmunds is a short distance away by car. We took part in the Green King Brewery tour which was fascinating. There are lots of nice places to eat in Bury too. We read in the information pack at the house about the walk to a local pub which was tempting but we opted to just stay in and enjoy the endless view.
We stay in lots of self catering cottages, this is one or the best great renovation stunning views and close to big towns. We loved it.
