October is such a wonderful time in Suffolk. The beautiful colours of Autumn grace the hedgerows and the cooler weather is a great excuse to stay inside and snuggle up in front of a log burner. So why not choose Suffolk as your destination for a break with the family this Half Term? There are plenty of things to do and see to keep your troops entertained, so here are our top tips for things to do:
Walking and Cycling Routes
We are really lucky here in Suffolk to have forest trails close by that are perfect for a cycle ride. Rendlesham Forest has two main cycle routes as well as a family friendly picnic area and play area, and don't forget you can also try the UFO Trail! There is also the 10 mile Viking Trail in Tunstall which is perfectly suited for the more advanced cyclist. Or if you prefer you can take a picnic and enjoy the peace and quiet.
If you and your family are wildlife lovers that Suffolk is the place for you! Suffolk has many fantastic RSPB sites and nature reserves many of which host activities over the school holidays. RSPB Minsmere, near Dunwich, is particulary good for families with it's 'Wild Zone' and 'Discovery Centre'. Your little ones can even borrow an Explorer Backpack to help them discover the wealth of wildlife that is available. Suffolk has a variety of birds and other wildlife all year round and Autumn is no exception, so why not get your walking boots on and get exploring!
There is no better way to enjoy Suffolk than to explore the coast! We have so many wonderful coastal towns brimming with local independent shops and restaurants. And don't forget the beautiful stony beaches at Aldeburgh and Southwold. Perfect for a brisk autumn walk followed by some delicious fish & chips... yum! Don't forget crabbing at Walberswick, a great way to entertain the children and fun for the adults too, why not have a competition for who can catch the most?
There are lots of family friendly Halloween themed events in Suffolk over the October Half Term:
- Why not treat your little ones to a spooky day out at The Suffolk Punch Trust who are hosting a week of Halloween activities.
- There is also the Halloweenies event at Kentwell Hall, Long Melford for all budding sorcerers and and sorceresses.
- Or, if you prefer something a bit less scary there is the Autumn Half Term Party at Haw Wood Farm, Darsham where there are autumn crafts, marshmallow toasting, sticky toffee apples and yummy pulled pork.
- For your animal lovers there's also Easton Farm Park and The Suffolk Owl Sanctuary which are perfect for entertaining the whole family this October Half Term.
With so much to do, you might not be able to fit it all into a week! Book now to secure your October Half Term break with Suffolk Cottage Holidays or call us on 01394 389189.
